The second on-the-spot contest for 1982 was held in the City of Pines during the weekend of March 6 and 7. Club Secretariat was set up at rustic Vallejo Hotel.
Earliest bird we know was Niding Maloles who arrived as early as Wednesday.
Last recorded arrival was the older (?) member of the Father-and-Son team of Johnny Cruz and “El Sabungero” Sugay. “El Sabungero” arrived Saturday night just in time for the cocktails. It is not true that his favorite Texas overslept and failed to wake him up. Truth is, he bought a ticket from Sarkies Tours and boarded the bus. However, his ticket was for Legaspi and he realized his mistake when he saw, upon arrival, Mayon Volcano in the foreground instead of Session Road.
Seen in and around Baguio
* The Cokin team of “Ambassador-at-Large” Niding Maloles and Patrick Fong spying on each other with split fields, tobacco filters, blue filters and hoping to duplicate their performance in the first on-the-spot held in Makati.
* Amang Jose with his new 500 mirror Leicaflex lens mounted on his most expensive accessory to date, a four-wheeled air-conditioned Japanese-made Hi-Ace.
* Bien Bautista with a rooster, a dog and an irate father and son.
* Ernie Fajardo and Judes Echauz shooting the wilds of “Chapparal”.
* Mads Lacuesta staking his tripod at Burnham Park and staying through all day to take the same shot at night.
* Richard SyCip hounding Vic Valenciano for a film puller.
* Waldy Cruz shooting his tag with half a roll of 36 exposure film just to make sure.
* Rudy de Leon really splurging and shooting 2 rolls (12 shots each?). Dr. Lizardo and Bimbo Mills were the most tipid with 1 roll each; most extravagant (or insecure?) was Benny de la Vega with 11!
* Mrs. Pantangco waiting patiently everywhere for her fanatic husband to finish shooting.
* Ramon “El Sanidad” Marcos busily sniffing around toilets and bath-tubs making sure they are antiseptically clean.
* Gerry Limjuco and Irwin Jazmines pushing not film but a conked-out red car into the ravine.
* Louie Abiva and Gee Lingan becoming bosom buddies shooting bosomy mountains.
It was a well-attended affair considering the distance. A total of 32 members participated exposing about 200 rolls of film.
Our special thanks to Mayor Ernesto Bueno, Atty. Ricardo Paraan of Pilipino Telephone, Dette Paterno and Menchu Marcos for making out stay in Baguio a memorable one.
