OTS Albay was not only about majestic Mayon, but also an experience of club camaraderie and Bicol delicacies. The name Mayon comes from the Bicol word “magayon”, which means “beautiful”. So there’s a story among Bicolanos that Mayon only show herself to those who are “magayon”, i.e. beautiful. Mayon showed her majestic beauty Day 1 & 2 of the OTS, and hid herself behind clouds the last two days. When Mayon was not visible, we mixed with the locals in the market place and in centuries old churches (Daraga and Cagsawa). In between shooting, we tasted local dishes “pinangat”, “laing”, “santol” cooked with coconut milk. The meal would not be complete without the crispy sweet pili nut. ‘Twas a memorable weekend with Mayon.
